The large dome of the Rijeka Tower Centre is an example of design that carefully takes into account the static and aesthetic issues of roofing systems.

Twenty two metres in diameter, built using the Schüco FW 50+ system, with trapezoid glass panels, leaning on a spectacular wooden slat structure, complete with layered double glazing, low emission safety glass and 12 motor-driven smoke out opening sections, the main issue of this project was the different expansions of wood and aluminium.

Nicolli designed the joints between the two structures taking into account the different expansion properties of the two materials, making their connection solid and dynamic at the same time.
